C1.7 Family Resource Youth Service Centers

Introduction

Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) provide services to children, youth, and families across the state. More than eight hundred and fifty (850) FRYSCs are in approximately twelve hundred (1,200) schools statewide. The primary goal of these centers is to remove non-academic barriers to learning to enhance student academic success. The programs and services of FRYSCs are tailored to the characteristics and needs of the local community and families, as well as the community resources available.

Programs and services may address kindergarten readiness, successful school and adult life transitions, parent engagement, student achievement, and well-being. FRYSCs collaborate in the community to promote physical and mental health for families and students and opportunities for families to learn together in safe environments.

FRYSCs have established a record of success based on improved student performance in classwork, homework, and peer relations, as reported by teachers. Parents also report that they experience greater satisfaction and involvement with the schools due to assistance through their local FRYSCs. The mission and work of FRYSCs align perfectly with the prevention efforts of DCBS, making them ideal partners for collaboration.
