12.31 Property Damage

Practice Guidance

  • The foster/adoptive home parent may submit claims for property damage perpetrated by a child in foster care. ​



Procedure

​The R&C Worker: 

  1. Submits damages for consideration when requested by the foster/adoptive home parent; 
  2. Makes a special expense request and submits the following documentation to the FSOS to support the claim:
    1. Notarized affidavit of the foster/adoptive home verifying damage;
    2. Witness statements, if possible;
    3. Statement from the SSW, regarding the incident, response from the child to the claim;
    4. Relevant police reports if applicable;
    5. Two (2) estimates of the cost to repair the damage or replacement costs, if the property is totally destroyed;
    6. Current book value of vehicle for damage to an automobile may be required; and
    7. Photographs of the damage.
  3. Submits the appropriate billing documentation is submitted to the billing specialist for payment if approved.
The FSOS:

  1. Provides the request packet to the Director of the Division of Administration and Financial Management (DAFM), or designee, for approval; copy regional leadership as appropriate.
